MOTD guide
What is a MOTD?
The MOTD (message of the day) is the text under your server's name in the Minecraft multiplayer list. Players read it before they join, so use it to say what your server is and what's new.
How to set it in server.properties
- Stop your server.
- Open server.properties in the server's main folder.
- Replace the motd= line with the one from this generator. It writes § as
\u00A7, the way the file needs it. - Save the file and start the server again.
Tips
- Put the color before the style. A color code clears bold, italic and the other styles, so &a&l is bold green but &l&a is plain green.
- Keep each line short. The list cuts off long lines, so check the preview.
- To center a line, add spaces in front of it. The generator keeps them in server.properties.
- server.properties only supports these 16 colors. Hex colors and gradients need a plugin.
